Web Marketing Software

jan awr and la

I use a variety of online tools and software to help manage the web marketing process.

I begin by using Digital Point’s excellent Keyword Suggestion Tool to generate a list of key phrases. I use Advanced Web Ranking to track search engine ranking positions (SERPs) and to determine linking opportunities and do competitive analysis. I’m currently investigating Link Assistant to see if it will help find and manage linking opportunities. Somewhere in the middle of that are a couple of obligatory Excel spreadsheets.

Advanced Web Ranking

I use Advanced Web Ranking to monitor ranking for all of the phrases I am interested in. I colour code sites depending on whether they are direct competitors, linking opportunities, unrelated, spam, etc.

I use AWR to review my progress over time. Though I don’t currently use it, AWR also offers robust reporting functionality for sending updates to clients. AWR is a cornerstone of way I do web marketing and is well worth the $59 to $500 they charge (depending on edition). It is available for Mac OS X, Linux and Windows unlike it’s competitor Web Position Gold.

Link Assistant

I’m currently reviewing Link Assistant. So far it looks like a more efficient way to manage reciprocal linking. I can easily build a list of highly ranked pages that link to competitors, or generate a list of highly ranked pages that contain a specific phrase. Link Assistant has a built in mail client and it automates much of the link request / page building process.

If you use any great software tell me about it, or post it at the Digital Point forums.

Best of luck in your web marketing objectives!

  1. I like that you can use freeware with the DP keyword tool. Do you use the keywords it suggests anywhere besides the “keywords” metaname in the page head of the sites you market? Some sites will hide keywords in the background of the actual page to try to generate more hits. I’m not sure if it still works or if search engines have started to ignore this. Some don’t like that technique.

I am also curious as to what your strategy is when your competitors utilize all of the same keywords you do. How do you proceed from there in order to increase your traffic over theirs?

  2. I am not very familiar with reciprocal linking, so could you explain the benefit and importance this would be for a new upcoming business? It seems like a great package as it meets the needs of both novices and more advanced editors working with link exchanges. The on/off feature incorporated into the help wizard caught my attention as it seems like the software is very user friendly, and can grow along with the user when the editor wants customizable options. This website marketing software seems like a very effective way to manage and market links, target traffic, gain visitors, and increase sales.

A key selling point of this software is the tracking aspect in order to ensure that the company’s rank in the search engines is increasing. It is increasingly important to show that investments in products such as this can add overall value to the company. How often do you recommend updating “keywords” associated with the website and search engines to ensure your site is where it should be?

  3. The keyword tool does sound like it would be very helpful. Is there anything special you have to do when making a website to get it to come up on search engines like Yahoo or MSN? Do you have to register with them or anything?

Do you ever run into problems when using so many different types of software to perform different functions? Is there every a time when maybe things would go smoother if you could do it all with one program? Have you ever found such a program, and if so, did it work well or not?

  4. Being able to do advanced searches on these search engines is really good. This would give you an advantage to see where you rank in these systems, and give you an option to find out what you are up against with other competition. I am wondering if there are these same options for exploring spam and if it would give you an advantage to be able to block out a great deal of these sites that seem to invade your e-mails as well as prey on your Internet searches. These same spammers may be the ones trying to access your resources and sites maybe even to steal our ideas as replicate them.
