Staggering Feats of SEO

My experiments in search engine optimization have led to the realization of an astonishing possibility… Anyone who is meticulous and has enough time on their hands should be able to rank well for any decent adequately targeted term. My experiment was for “vancouver web design” and I think I spent about 10 hours on it. I sat at #8 on google for a couple of days and have now slowly slipped down to #12.

I didn’t do anything dubious, just focused on building links with websites on related topics, structured the code cleanly, and used the phrase a couple of times in my content.

I made several assumptions before starting this experiment, and I think some of them must be faulty.

1) the phrase “vancouver web design” is being actively targeted by vancouver web design firms
2) there are other local design companies that care about search engine optimization as a marketing strategy
3) internet marketing consultants in this city know what they are doing

There are a ton of web design firms and internet marketing companies in this city, and for me to get to #8 suggests that either these companies don’t focus on their local market, that they don’t practice what the preach for SEO, or that somehow I’ve struck on a technique to rank well that many other smarter people have missed.
